In between October and November of 2010, Nisfit Hussy, an ex-OLRD, with Glitter Skidder by her side, finally decided to take roller derby back with her to Brussels in an attempt to create Belgium’s third league. As the word spread around, and the number of potential skaters increased to more or less 15, the Brussels Derby Pixies skated for the first time on the 6th of February 2011 in Tour & Taxi , and just a week later, they found a permanent venue in the heart of Brussels: Stade Charles Vanderputten.
Since then, the BDP have been working hard, with a great help from our older sisterleagues and visiting skaters from across the pond, to master both the skating skills required to be derby-ready and the commitments the league demanded from them for it to function in the most effective and professional way.
And so, as the Pixies grew to realise what roller derby has to offer them, their commitment to the league’s development slipped into high gear; throughout the latter part of 2011 and early 2012 the BDP has been working really hard on creating a league that is professional, athletic and competitive, while still treasuring the amazing spirit of sisterhood they have towards one another.
The Brussels Derby Pixies, now over 50 members strong and counting (both skaters and referees or as we like to call them – stormtroopers), hale from Belgium, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Lebanon, Australia and USA, and couldn’t be prouder to represent the multicultural aspects of Brussels within one united league.
They are currently practicing twice a week to make sure that our fans and ourselves get the most out of derby, both as a sport and a way of living.
